I always tell my clients that choosing a wedding photographer is almost as important as choosing a spouse. If you know what you want, it can be love at first sight... if you don't however, you ought to be prepared to be stuck with the results for a while.
That said- know what you want and make sure you find the best fit for you! There seem to be an endless amount of photographers to choose from nowadays, and they're all as different as their personalities. Some have a traditional style, some are more candid, and some talented in storytelling through the subtle details of the day. Some have a contemporary vibe, some, vintage, and some classic. There are photographers who keep it simple with minimal editing, no products, and offer online galleries for download, while others provide a boutique experience with thorough editing, beautiful products, and attention to detail- even down to packaging they create for their clients.
Finding the right fit for your family will ensure a more positive experience for you and the photographer.
I am all about the story... I love to piece together the slew of details that by themselves may not seem like much, but together have the potency to bring back every sweet memory, feeling, and thought from that special day. I don't pose or interrupt or fabricate- I try to document real moments as they happen. Those are the moments I want to capture- not some stiff pose.
I take the final product I present to my clients very seriously- down to the ribbon that ties it all together. I carefully cull and sort though all the images of the day and I edit each one. As you may have noticed elsewhere on my blog, I like to kick it old school- which means my client's don't receive their images via digital download, but rather in a hand stained keepsake box. All images are saved to a funky little wooden USB along side a sweet stack of 3.5x5 prints of my favorite moments from the day.
