There are few things in this world that are more important than capturing the lives of your loved ones...
Okay- I may be a bit bias here, but it doesn't change the fact that you will NEVER regret the time and investment you put into learning how to more beautifully document the world around you. How many of us have begged a spouse or a parent or had to talk ourselves into buying one of those fancy SLR cameras? And how many of us have let them sit, collecting dust on our shelves, because we were entirely too intimidated to pull them out and figure out how to use them?
I've hosted several beginners workshops over the years and felt that the 9-5 time frame was a limiting one. Just when it seemed that progress was being made, it was time to pack up for the day.
Well this past Spring, I decided to throw a weekend retreat style workshop into the mix and it was so successful, I don't think I'll ever go back! To be able to stay in one house with a handful of other photographers and focus solely on the photographic medium for an entire weekend is the way to do it. It allows for shooting in every kind of light (or lack thereof), at every time of day, with access to Q&A at all times. And of course, the pampering side of it is always a nice touch too. We stay in gorgeous, spacious, homes with incredible views, catered meals (or in some cases, a private chef) to take care of all your needs so you can focus on photography.
I've created two retreats that cater to the needs and skill sets of two main groups.
The 'Behind the Beautiful Image Retreat' is geared towards beginners. Discussions on camera basics, composition, and the components that make up beautiful imagery are held throughout the weekend, but it's through hands on experience where massive strides will be made. For two and a half days straight, we photograph everything from sunrises and sunsets, to still life, to the landscapes around us, and even the food we eat. Practice makes perfect, and in one weekend, attendees are able to better recognize the elements of beautiful composition and in most cases, say goodbye to auto mode and hello to manual!
The 'Behind the Artful Image Retreat' is geared towards photography professionals looking to get reinspired through networking with other professionals and adding uniquely styled shoots to their portfolios. These retreats can either be portrait or wedding themed depending on the amount of interest for either focus.
So- whether you're a blogger looking to amp up your web presence, a portrait photographer hoping to freshen up your portfolio, or a mama wanting to learn the basics so she can capture the lives of her family- one or both of these retreats will serve you well.
Interested in more information on either of the upcoming retreats this Spring or Fall? Just shoot me off an e-mail at almirabphotography@gmail.com and I'd be happy to fill you in on more details!
